American Ninja Warrior 8/4 Recap: History-Making Denver City Finals

Tonight, American Ninja Warrior traveled back to Denver, Colorado for the last city finals course. It was a history-making night, and we also saw many shocks as well.

The course consisted of 10 obstacles. The first six were the same from the qualifying course: the Quintuple Steps, Cat Grab, Spinning Log, Spikes into Cargo Net, Devil Steps, and the Warped Wall. Next the competitors faced the Salmon Ladder, Arm Rings, Doorknob Arch, and finally the Spider Climb.

Tonight there were many veterans returning to the city finals course. Here are a few of the their stories:

Lance Pekus, also known as the “Cowboy Ninja”, lost one of the rings on the Arm Rings and failed at an early dismount.

Issac Caldiero once again used his professional rock climbing skills to tear up yet another course. It’s no surprise he’s moving on to Las Vegas.

Jon Stewart confessed his aspiration of becoming the oldest competitor to ever complete a finals course. Tonight his dream came true at 52 years old, making ANW history.

Meagan Martin became the third female ever to complete a qualifying course. Tonight she left Kacy Catanzaro as the lone victor when she failed to grab the Spikes into Cargo.

Brian Arnold holds the ANW record for making it the farthest. He failed on Stage 3 last year, and hopes to make it all the way to the top of Mt. Midoriama this season. He continues his quest tonight, effortlessly completing the course.

Lorin Ball had the fastest time in qualifying and everyone expected him to have no issues in the finals. He rushed through the course and then got hung up
on the Salmon Ladder. He fell in the water, giving Lance Pekus the 15th spot.

These top 15 competitors will be moving on the Las Vegas Stage 1:

1. Issac Caldiero
