Amazon Prime Instant Video Gets Upgrade To 4K

Amazon Prime Instant Video Gets Upgrade To 4K

Amazon Prime members are now able to stream UHD (ultra high definition), or ‘4K’ movies and TV shows, at no extra cost.

UHD streaming is only available for select LG, Samsung and Sony UHD capable TV’s, but the list of compatible models is fairly long.

Some of the content that is available for UHD streaming includes Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Funny Girl, Hitch and Philadelphia from Sony pictures, and Amazon Studio’s upcoming series Mozart in the Jungle, Bosch , Hand of God, The After and Red Oakswill.

Netflix added UHD streaming earlier this year, but it’s only available with their top tier subscription option, which also allows for 4 people to be using Netflix at once, where as all Amazon Prime members can now stream UHD without paying any more than they do now.

It’s great to see more and more services supporting UHD, as the content and compatible devices currently available are limited, and the way to drive this technology forward is to see UHD content become more common.

“We want to deliver the best entertainment experience, and offering Ultra HD movies and TV shows raises the bar on quality and innovation that customers have come to expect from Amazon,” said Michael Paull, Vice President, Amazon Digital Video. “We’re also excited that Ultra HD is the latest benefit of the Amazon Prime membership, giving members instant access to great movies and TV shows in a premium picture resolution at no additional cost.”
