Amazon Officially Launches ‘Kindle Unlimited’

Amazon has officially announced the launch of its new Kindle Unlimited subscription service.

Yesterday, the company posted a short-lived announcement banner on their website, which was soon taken down for unknown reasons. Users of several online forums posted details about the service, but those too were eventually removed, presumably by Amazon.

A more detailed banner for Kindle Unlimited has been added to Amazon.com. Amazon does not appear to have any intention of removing it.

Kindle Unlimited offers users access to over 600,000 e-books, along with several thousand audiobooks, for a subscription fee of $9.99 per month. The service is available on all Kindle devices, as well as on iOS devices via the official Kindle app.

Popular titles available through Kindle Unlimited include the Harry Potter and Hunger Games series, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, as well as other best-sellers like Water for Elephants and Life of Pi.

Users can try Kindle Unlimited free for 30 days. This trial includes a free 3-month trial of Audible’s premium services, which includes access to over 150,000 audiobooks. After the trial period, this Audible service is available in conjunction with Kindle Unlimited for $14.95 per month.
