Amazon keeps upping the ante, adding more and more value to the Kindle Fire… and the thing hasn’t even launched yet!
The Kindle Fire is, of course, Amazon’s soon to be released e-reader tablet. The tablet had been rumored about for some time, and was finally introduced to the public on September 28. The Kindle Fire is designed not only for reading e-books, but also as a way to access the internet, content in Amazon’s store, and Amazon’s growing online warehouse of movies and TV shows through its Amazon Prime membership program.
Just a few weeks after the Kindle Fire was introduced, Amazon announced an agreement with PBS to add many of PBS’ shows to the Amazon Prime lineup.
A few weeks after that, Amazon announced an agreement with Disney – ABC adding even more movies and shows to Amazon Prime.
Last week, Amazon announced that Kindle owners could access the new Kindle Lending Library, making thousands of e-books available for borrowing.
Then yesterday morning, Amazon announced that the Kindle Fire, along with the rest of the Kindle e-readers, would be for sale not just through Amazon.com, but also through 16,000 brick-and-mortar stores such as Best Buy, Target, Walmart, Radio Shack and others.
Then yesterday evening, Amazon announced that they would have thousands of new apps ready for use on the Kindle Fire next week. According to Amazon, each of these apps has been tested for use on the Kindle Fire. Included will be apps from “Netflix, Rhapsody, Pandora, Twitter, Comics by comiXology, Facebook, The Weather Channel and popular games from Zynga, EA, Gameloft, PopCap and Rovio,”said Amazon in the announcement. They went on to say that “customers can get a great ‘paid’ app for free every day,” but did not elaborate.
We’re now the countdown with five days to go before the Kindle Fire’s official launch and shipping date. Amazon’s strategy of introducing the tablet, and then building value and excitement prior to its actual release, has been amazing to watch. What more will be revealed prior prior to the November 15 launch? Enquiring minds want to know!
