Amazon is Opening More Retail Stores

Amazon is planning to add more retail stores, the company’s founder and CEO, Jeff Bezos, said this week.

For years, Amazon was the place shoppers went instead of going to a retail store. But that changed early this year, when the company opened its first-ever brick-and-mortar retail store in its hometown of Seattle.

Now Bezos says the company is “definitely” planning on opening more stores, although they have not yet decided exactly how many. One store is already under construction in the San Diego area.

The existing Amazon store is called Amazon Books, and is located in Seattle’s University Village outdoor mall. In addition to books, the store offers the chance to try out Kindles and other Amazon electronic devices. Its arrival earlier this year followed years of rumors that the previously online-only Amazon was looking to establish a brick-and-mortar retail presence.

Bezos’ comments, which came at a shareholder meeting, were reported by the Wall Street Journal.

What do you think? Would you go to an Amazon store, rather than just order from the Amazon website or app?
