Amazon AutoRip Now Available For Vinyl Purchases

Amazon announced a new feature for AutoRip today – customers who have purchased vinyl records from Amazon will find MP3 versions added to their Cloud Player libraries. The MP3s are offered free of charge, and the music is added automatically to your Amazon Cloud Player.

“We’re thrilled to extend this experience to vinyl records,” said Steve Boom, Vice President of Digital Music for Amazon. “Many of our music customers are vinyl fans and it’s traditionally been very difficult to make digital versions of vinyl records—now customers can enjoy the albums they buy wherever they are, not just when they have access to a record player.”

This new feature applies to purchases made from 1998 to the present day and beyond. To see if your purchases qualify, look for the AutoRip logo when purchasing music or reviewing past purchases.

There are some tracks and albums that are limited by licenses, so some of your purchased music may not be available in MP3 format.

Amazon states that the AutoRip MP3s are available for listening immediately on the Amazon Cloud Player, but some customers have reported that they are experiencing delays up to 48 hours after the item has shipped.

Amazon’s AutoRip service was introduced in January of 2013. Originally the service allowed people who buy or have ever bought CDs on Amazon to also store a digital copy of that album in the Amazon Cloud Player.

Have you used Amazon’s AutoRip service or Cloud Player before?

Do you think DVD purchases will ever be available through AutoRip and the Cloud Player?
