Whitsundays Sailing Adventures Diving & Sea Kayaking [Review]

From time to time I get the opportunity to go on a trip and sharing is always something that helps us all to make a good choice at the end of the day.

I am going to talk about a 3 days and 2 night trip that I had aboard Summertime, a boat that can accommodate 16 people and that runs a tour of the Whitsundays with a main focus put on diving and a secondary focus put on sea kayaking.

The travel package in question is offered by Whitsundays Sailing Adventures.

About Summertime

Summertime has a crew of 3 people and all the equipment necessary for scuba diving and sea kayaking on board. There is a dive instructor that is responsible for training tourists and keeping them safe and various meals are possible based on a pre-determined menu.

One dive is free of charge. More are possible for extra payment if the weather allows it.

The boat goes on 2 tours every single week, one departing on Thursdays and the other one on Sundays. The trip takes tourists round The Great barrier Reef Marine Park and Whitsunday Islands.

More about the tour, costs, what is included and what is not included at this link. Also, information about the vessel can be found on Summertime’s official page HERE.

Pros

  • Diversified menu and possible activities
  • Friendly and well trained crew
  • A unique travel route that takes the tourist to various locations that are literally not touched by man
  • Various possible activities on board from watching a movie to bathing in the sun
  • The trip to Hill Inlet with Whitehaven Beach (more details below)
  • Personalized DVD offered (provided an extra fee) with professional photographs and videos
  • Jacuzzi on the deck
  • Wonderful diving spots
  • Great sea kayaking experience

Cons

  • Not much space available so privacy is low
  • Much of the experience depends on the people that you travel with
  • Small bathrooms

Conclusions

The diving trip aboard Summertime is one that is recommended for larger groups of people (preferably as close as possible to 16) so that you can have the entire boat for yourself. The vintage air of the interior design is highly attractive but there is not much space available for too much diversity.

Summertime is definitely great for the adventurous type that is not keen on having a lot of privacy while traveling. The landscapes that can be viewed are memorable and there is a strong possibility that any person on the tour will remember the diving experience since the crew chooses locations that are remote and that feature a lot of wildlife.

On the whole, this is a trip that is recommended by younger travelers and not for seniors, which need to be offered more luxury or at least more space. It is a small vessel for the number of people it accommodates but it is great to see that the tour can start even with fewer people on board.

The crew makes the entire tour better and the food is very good. You are even provided with sandwiches for the Hill Inlet on-foot trip.
