2016 NYC Triathlon: Time, Traffic & Street Closures & Prime Viewing Spots

The 2016 NYC Panasonic Triathlon takes place tomorrow (Sunday, July 24), with thousands athletes competing in the 3-leg event.

For those planning to watch, or planning to travel in and around the city, here’s what you need to know, including race time, street closures and prime viewing spots..

Triathlon Race Time/Course: The triathlon kicks off at 5:50 A.M. with the 1500 meter swim at 99th street and the Hudson river.

Following the swim is the 40k bike race, taking participants along the Henry Hudson to Gun Hill road in the Bronx, then back along the Henry Hudson to 79 street.

Finally, they will compete the 10k run, which loops through Central Park and ends at the finish line on Dead Road.

*Due to the excessive heat conditions, all non-professional athletes will run 8k instead of 10.

Street Closures: According to the Department of Transportation (DOT), the following streets will be closed from 5:30 A.M. EST to 2 P.M. EST:

Manhattan

West 79th Street between Riverside Drive and the traffic circle near the West Side Highway

The Bronx
