2016 Honda HR-V Crossover Arrives Early Next Year

2016 Honda HR-V Crossover Arrives Early Next Year

At this years Los Angeles International Autoshow, Honda unveiled its all-new 2016 HR-V crossover.

The Honda HR-V blends coupe looks with the space and utility of an SUV and, of course, Honda quality.

Honda aims at dominating the rapidly expanding entry level crossover market with claims of class-leading fuel economy and unrivaled interior space and versatility.

The HR-V makes use of a global platform, with the fuel tank mounted in the center allowing for the second row seating to be reconfigurable, allowing for multiple seating/cargo layouts.

The interior boasts 100.1 cu.ft. of occupant space and 58.8 cu.ft. of cargo volume when the second row seats are down, which is enough to rival a few mid-size SUV’s.

According to the senior vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Jeff Conrad, “The new HR-V crossover is a true segment-busting vehicle, unlike anything else on the market today.”

Concealed rear door handles and cabin shape contribute to a coupe like appearance.

With distinctive contours and upswept lines the body gives an air of sporty solidity.

Inside occupants are treated to soft touch materials, a spacious cabin with premium detailing, like stitch lines, and brushed chrome.

The gauges feature Honda’s “floating” illumination rings and Eco Assist, wherein the ring surrounding the speedo changes from white to green if the driver is driving in an environmentally friendly manner.

The 2016 Honda HR-V is powered by a SOHC 16 valve 4 cyl. i-VTEC, which makes 138 hp and 127 lb-ft.

There will be two transmissions available. Standard is the fuel-efficient CVT, but a 6-speed stick is an option if you choose the 2wd model.

All-wheel-drive models utilise Honda’s Real Time AWD with Intelligent Control System.

Combining several safety features, including ABS, VSA with traction control, TPMS, rear view camera, and ACE ( body structure designed to absorb and disperse impact energy), and much more, Honda expects to achieve top ratings from NHTSA and IIHS.

In keeping with Honda’s vernacular three models, LX, EX, EX-L, are to be available.
