2015 Oscar Nominees for Acting

We’ve covered the nominees for Best Picture for Sunday’s Academy Awards. But if you’re wondering about the acting nominees for the show, which starts at 4 p.m. PST, look no further.

Best Actor nominees:

Steve Carrell is the only Best Actor nominee who is in a  film that didn’t get a nod for Best Picture. He is nominated for his role in Foxcatcher. 

Michael Keaton is coming off his Golden Globe win for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy with a nomination for Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance). Eddie Redmayne is also nominated for Best Actor for his role in The Theory of Everything, for which he won the Golden Globe Best Actor in a Drama.

Rounding out the Best Actor nominations are Bradley Cooper for American Sniper and Benedict Cumberbatch for The Imitation Game.

Best Actress nominees:

Felicity Jones is the only Best Actress nominee who was in a film nominated for Best Picture. She is being recognized for her role in The Theory of Everything.

Julianne Moore’s performance in Still Alice won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama, and she is also nominated for the Oscar. Amy Adams won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy but her performance in Big Eyes did not receive an Oscar nomination.

Also nominated for Best Actress are Marion Cotillard for Two Days, One Night; Rosamund Pike for Gone Girl; and Reese Witherspoon for Wild.

Best Supporting Actor nominees:

Golden Globe Best Supporting actor winner J.K. Simmons is also nominated for the Oscar for his role in Whiplash.

The other nominees are Robert Duvall for The Judge; Ethan Hawke for Boyhood; Edward Norton for Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance); and Mark Ruffalo for Foxcatcher.

Best Supporting Actress nominees:

Patricia Arquette is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Boyhood. She won the Golden Globe in the same category.

The other nominees for Best Actress in a Supporting Role are Laura Dern for Wild; Keira Knightley for The Imitation Game; Emma Stone for Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance); and Meryl Streep for Into the Woods.
