2015 Nissan Altima – Floating to the Top

The 2015 Nissan Altima has distinctive styling, lots of interior space and class-above features.

The Altima is Nissan’s entry in the ultra competitive midsize family sedan market and is one of the best selling cars in the nation.

Every manufacturer has a model in this segment, yet the 2015 Altima manages to combine many of the best features found in its rivals. This Nissan’s main rivals are the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Mazda6.

After being completely redesigned two years ago, the 2015 Altima is now available with Nissan’s new app-driven infotainment system, NissanConnect, on the 3.5 SL model. This system includes Navigation and Mobile Apps, Blind Spot Warning, Moving Object Detection and Lane Departure Warning as standard.

Also, 2.5 SV models include an 8-way power driver’s seat with 2-way power lumbar support, along with standard fog lights. SL models come with a 4-way power front passenger seat and all models equipped with Remote Engine Start now have Intelligent Climate Control.

The 2015 Altima is available in several trim levels and two different powerplants. The base engine is a 182 hp 2.5-litre four-cylinder and the optional motor is a 270 hp 3.5-litre V6.

Despite not offering a hybrid or diesel, both Altima engines are very efficient. The four-cylinder returns 27 mpg (7.5L/100km) city and 38 mpg (5.1L/100km) highway. The 2015 V6 sees a slight improvement over last year with 22 mpg (9.4L/100km) city and 32 mpg (6.2L/100km) highway.

2015 Nissan AltimaWhile its main duty is transporting families and running errands, the Altima does so with a measure of fun. Nissan aims to challenge more premium sedans such as the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series with its driving dynamics. This means the ride can be a bit stiff on the roughest roads, but around town it proves to be quite nimble.

Boasting an intuitive cabin with high quality materials, the 2015 Nissan Altima’s standout features are the seats themselves. The NASA-inspired Zero Gravity buckets are the most comfortable in this class and make long trips a joy.

Practicality is also very good as there is adequate legroom in the rear and the trunk is huge.

Tell us what you think about the 2015 Nissan Altima. Can it gain further praise in this competitive market?
