2015 Ford Edge – Innovative Technology and Improved Performance

Ford has unveiled the 2015 Edge at their fourth annual “Go Further with Ford” trend conference.

The Edge was Ford’s original crossover utility vehicle, and the 2015 model boasts more technology, higher levels of craftsmanship and improved vehicle dynamics.

All-new from the ground up, the 2015 Edge looks to improve upon the success of the original when it launched in 2006.

Raj Nair, group vice president of Global Product Development spoke at the event:

“The original Edge was over first entry into the world of crossover utilities – a technology advanced vehicle that was the perfect blend of sedan comfort and efficiency with SUV functionality. Now, we are building on that success, and building on the emotional appeal of the vehicle by offering more of the technology our customers want in a package that meets the highest expectations for quality and craftsmanship.”

The 2015 Edge is based on Ford’s global midsize vehicle platform, which allows for a stronger and more athletic shape. As a result, the all-new Edge will be sold in more than 100 markets across the globe.

The redesigned front and rear suspension was developed to isolate road imperfections and absorb noise without compromising handling. This makes the every day commute quieter and more comfortable.

Making the Edge easier to maneuver and more fun to drive, it will be the first Ford product to feature the brands adaptive steering technology. This will continually change the steering ratio based on vehicle speed. So, parking and driving in tight spaces will require less effort from the driver and fewer turns of the steering wheel.

At launch, the Edge will be available with three engine choices, two of which are new.

Standard models will be equipped with a twin-scroll 2.0-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder producing 245 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. While more efficient, this new engine is also more capable, able to be equipped with AWD and towing package.

The Edge Sport comes with an exclusive, all-new 2.7-litre EcoBoost V6. This twin-turbocharged engine is expected to put out more than 300 hp, making it the highest-performing Edge ever.

All engines are mated to Ford’s SelectShift six-speed automatic with paddle-shifters on the steering wheel.

The 2015 Edge will feature a suite of standard and available technologies that makes it a leader for Ford. Newly offered features include enhanced active park assist, side parking sensors and a 180-degree front camera with washer.

Let us know what you think about the all-new Edge. Will it be as successful as the original?
