16,800 Lbs Of Hamburger Patties Recalled

Approximately 16,800 pounds of ground beef patties that were imported from Canada have been recalled due to the possibility of E. coli contamination, according to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food and Safety Inspection Service (FSIS).

The hamburger patties were imported by Sysco Seattle Inc. and distributed to restaurants in Arizona, Colorado, Texas, and Washington state. According to the FSIS, Sysco was notified by the supplier of the possible contamination and began contacting its own customers on March 20.

The recall is for 10 pound boxes of 8 ounce “Prime Rim Beef Patties” with the product code 55317 and the production code 11 NO 22, and 10 pound boxes of 71 gram “Prime Rim Beef Patties”  with the product code 55391 and the production code 11 SE 01 or 12 JA 04.

The strain of E. coli of concern in this recall is E. coli O157:H7. The bacterium is potentially deadly, and is primarily a threat to the very young, elderly, or people with weakened immune systems, according to the FSIS. Symptoms of infection include dehydration, bloody diarrhea, and kidney failure. The bacterium is killed by cooking meat to an internal temperature of 160° Fahrenheit, said the FSIS.
